1070 Hydraulic couplers

Hi everyone,
I have the "old" Case hydraulic couplers on my 1070 tractor. Well I went to move some machinery around and all my hydraulics on the field cultivator and disk are Pioneer couplers. I went to my neighbor and he gave me this part number for the "old" Case coupler adapters 4080-4. Sound correct? I went to town to get the "old" Case male end and Pioneer female adapters to be able to use my tillage equipment. Is this part number 4080-4 only available through Case? I found 4085-4 at the automotive store but the male end is too small to fit in my hydraulics on the tractor now and the female too small also to plug the hydraulic hoses into. Any help is greatly appreciated. I am going to look for new parts in the morning. Thank you all.

Hi Kurt, all my 70 series had the old style CASE couplers when I acquired them. I have since changed all the female ends to the late style universal pioneer type. I do not know the part no. as I can go to the local dealer tell them what I need and they set the stuff on the counter. A parts book for the latest 1070 will list the items. Your tractor would more than likely need the adaptor fittings installed on the hose ends to accept the coupler. It's a little more work than just useing adapters but given the choice I would never go back. Give it some thought, if you need part no. I can look them up for you. Rod.

Hi Rod,
I am just trying to figure out what is the best way as far as $ for hydraulics. Do I just buy the old style male tips for my equipment or get the adapters that fit into my current couplers on the tractor? Decisions...Decisions...LOL

If you only have a couple items that you will be useing, the adapters are probably the most bang for the buck. If you put the old style couplers on your implements that will hinder using a different tractor should the need arise. I have some adapters in the shop , I will check in the morn and see if they have part no. on them, Rod.

We used those adaptors on the farm for our 730 and dc's. THEY ARE A REAL PAIN!!!! Definately change to pioneer on the tractor if being original is less of a concern for you that having something that is easy to use. It will be money well spent.

I just made my own adapters. Take a Case male end and attach a short pipe nipple and then a female Pioneer end and your set to go. Was really no cost for me as I had all the pieces I needed on hand anyway.

Kurt, I have 2 sets of adapters, one set says CASE with no part no. and one is Pioneer 4080-4 as you mentioned earlier. They look identical as if made by the same manufactor with stamped names being the only difference. Rod.

Unless you have everything changed to the same ends these adapters are probably your best bet. We keep a set in the tool box of our 770 so we can hook to pioneer type hoses. Any farm supply store should have these adapters. Probably cheaper than Case-IH.

4080-4 are the correct couplers to couple the male pioneer ends to the Original Style CASE Female Couplers. What we do here is to carry the couplers in the tractors, in a plastic bag, to keep them clean. In the older tractors with CASE female couplers, we carry the 4080-4 adapters. In the newer tractors with the smaller pioneer female couplers, we carry the 4085-4 adapters.

After 35-40 years your hose are probably shot anyway, New hoses, Pioneer Push/Pull couplers, and weld up some brackets to use snap-rings.

What i have is a set of Old Case to Pioneer adapters for my 1070 , I need a set that does JD too one of my DCs came here sporting a JDeere hydro quik coupler off of a 3010 junker clunker . so , ,Around the farm most everything i have has one Deere and one Pioneer coupler, the deere is on the down side , pioneeer fastens to up side ,,this way i can always get it rite the 1st time , and i only need one adapter in each tractor tool box, because it is always half rite with the connectors

I would convert it to iso/Pioneer couplers. The less things that hydraulic oil has to pass by the better. Dad's 970 had Case couplers and everything had Pioneer, what a pita. Get the couplers that you push in to couple. If you buy another piece of machinery or a cylinder chances are that it will have Pioneer couplers. Save your Case couplers as they are in demand for restoraions.
