First post here, HI, Just bought a 1989- 1818 Skidsteer and assumed bucket would float but lever does not seem to offer it. I checked inside and the valve throw seems to be all the way, but no detent hold or coast down. Only power down all the way. Are there more than one kind of spool to use or can I add it to existing valve assy. I guess I thought that was a for sure function. Thoughts? sjg

the bucket tilt will not have float but the loader lift/lower should have one,, never seen a Case skid steer that didn't, maybe yours never got used and the spring/detent in froze up and not allowing it to go into float, it is usually in the bottom of the lift valve spool, I do not have a parts on a 1818 but you could go to Case construction parts and look it up there, if I knew how to post a link to it I would sorry not that putor smart cnt

Thanks for reply, I checked parts diagram and sure enough found the detent block for the bucket arm float. I have seen that same part on mine so I will remove the two allen screws and take a look. Do you know if the detent block is under tension? Thanks.sjg

the spool will have a centering spring, and the detent will have a ball and spring just pay attention when taking apart so as not to loose parts cnt

Okay; Took off and cleaned detent block and now: GOT FLOAT! :D I did replace stock socket head bolts with hex bolts so it was much easier to re-assemble and for future maint of the detent pins and springs. Thanks for advice. Work safe sjg
