fordson major no oil pressure

I have a fordson major 220 diesel that had very low oil pressure. A new oil pump was purchased and all new bearings. Started engine and no oil pressure. took engine apart and turned pump with drill. pumped okay. Put engine back together and put electric drill on shaft that drives pump and injection pump. Oil shot out front and filter side of block.Lots of oil. Put engine back together and no oil pressure. Could relief valve on pump be problem. Dumping oil back into pan when there is pressure? Not sure what else to try

on this tractor pressure relief is at bottom of pump. Does not have one behind timing cover. I though that might be problem but checked with parts guys and it shows no relief in parts book. Only on pump

The early Majors had the relief valves up front the later Majors had them on the pump, as long as your old pump was the same you should be OK, I don’t believe you can get the early oil pan on when using the later oil pump.
I don’t mean to poke fun at you but most all of us have got burned by a stupid mistake once or twice, is there oil in the pan, is there enough oil, is the pickup tube on the oil pump and is it tight, did the bolts holding the pump get tightened down, are the drive and driven gears good, is the filter and housing installed correctly. I have had problems getting a dry pump to prime itself, I usually open up the port for the pressure gauge/sending unit, take a 1 qt squirt bottle (like the ones you get with gear oil in them) , stick it in the hole and empty out the container, sometimes twice before the entire system gets full. This seems to prime the entire system, fill the oil filter and prime the pump from the backside.

As Curt mentioned , make sure your gauge is reading corectly, screw a different one in the block and see what it says.

With a regular 3/8 drill on shaft it will pump lots. As soon as you put all covers on it won"t.I took all apart and tightened everything. put all back together and same problem. It will not build pressure.Do not understand why it will throw a 1/2 stream of oil out the filter oulet in block across the room with an elecrtic drill but will not pump when you put everything back together with motor running. Will not even get oil to filter. Have tried priming pump but as soon as motor stops quits pumping again. Lots of oil and all usual things have been checked

i took oil pan off again today. retightened all. tried with drill on injection pump shaft, pumped right away, put timing gears, covers, oil pan and tractor back together. took all day, started up and no oil at all. primed from gauge and filter. no luck.have filter housing off and just oil i put in came out and quit.I know pump is turning. I never disconnected from when i used drill. Is there a way to see if relief is dumping under very low pressure. Original mechanics who put together got pump off ebay.

sounds dumb but at this point nothings dumb, did you put the main bearings in wrong? the oil hole on the cap instead of the block?

Still no luck. Decided to get new pump.engine ser # 1537800. Now I need a new auxiliary drive shaft E96-CP9 to fit newer pumps. Ford OEM part. No luck. from ser # 1599502 all have this newer drive shaft for pump. Any ideas were to get. Also 3 bolt camshaft not available. Can I update to newer one bolt and what else do I need??
