Hitch debate

Building a hitch and in the design process. In everybody's opinion, does the angle of the hitch matter? (As in if the hitch point is flat, angled up, or angled down)

Provided everything is rigid, all that matters is the location of the hitch point in relationship to the center of the rear axle.

If your hitch is going to be a circle cut into a piece of plate, or a ring of some sort, then if it is angled down a little the hook will tend to stay a little more centered, and not want to ride off to the side.

a steeply angled down ward hitch seems to work, were not quite sure why but our theory is that it has something about the line of draft towards the center of the tractor, kind of like adjusting a pull type plow hitch to get proper alignment ,I for one don't like them and NTPA has a rule against them, NATPA doesn't but should

The only way it can make a difference is if you use a clevis, because the measurement point with a clevis is usually at the back edge of the bar that the clevis is attached to, so some up angle will extend your hitch point on the clevis higher. With a hole or D-ring it will be measured straight off the back and the hook will pull straight off the back so it will make no difference.
