tire size and brand

I am looking to buy a new set of tires. Want
14.9 X 38. I like the F&R 151 tread, but was
wondering about overall size, as different
manufactures and styles can vary in size. In
that size, what brand of tire is the tallest?
What brand is the widest?

It's kinda curious I think.....I've got 14.9-38 Firestone 151's on the GW tractor and Titan 14.9-38 long bar-long bars on the NF G tractor. The Firestones are taller by almost 2 inches but not quite as wide a tread pattern, narrower by about 1 inch. Both tractors still have the stock 12 inch rims and I run the pressure about 9-10 lbs. for pulling...softer on loose tracks and harder on tighter power tracks. About 11-12 lbs. the rest of the time for parading and plowing. The Firestones are about 10 years old and the Titans 6 years old, both getting sharp edges from road wear and about 80% of the tread left. I really can't say one is better than the other. The G usually putpulls the GW, but at 6500 lbs. it balances better ahd has 15 more horsepower to work with.

if you're talking about an old set of tires, look for some Safemarks. i believe they were slightly larger than any other brand out there. as far as the others, I always felt BFG's were the best hooking tire, and would take them and actually a set of armstrongs (titan is the same as armstrong) over firestone tires. beat a lot of firestone with those two brands over the years.

If you need to buy a new set go with the 14.9x38 Firestone Traction Field & Road. There aren't many companies or tread options in a bias 14.9 anymore. Stick with a name brand, cheaper ones are just that, cheaper made and less rubber.
