cylinder wall thickness

what is a safe thickness for cylinder walls for a block with water and then what is the thickness for that same block with hardbloc in it. How much thinner can you go with a filled block?

1/8 inch on wet sleeves. .075 with a filled block.I was on the phone with Darton the other day.I"ve also talked with other engine builders with similar views.If you are running a turbo with a bunch of boost I would go thicker on the wet sleeves.EP

The extra displacement doesn't gain anything when the cylinder walls flex and let pressure past the rings.
Type of cast iron or steel sleeves does matter.
Diesel, high compression spark engines and supercharged or turbo engines need thicker cylinder walls.
IMHO , 3/16" min for high pressure and 1/8" for a low pressure engine.

I have an oliver thats a dry block set up with .062 sleeves in it. I drilled a small hole in the big end of the rod to spray oil on to the sleeves thinking that it might act as a coolent. Running royal purple oil and around fifty passes, so far so good. I have built several wet sleve engins with .125 sleves with no problems what so ever.
