hi i was just wondering what flywheel use when putting a 403 motor in a u, i have been told that you just use the u flywheel and starter, but when i tried this the starter and flywheel werent right on. any help?

What do you mean not right on? The u and g bolt hole pattern and crankcase should match rite up in your u tractor assuming you are using a u flywheel and starter if you want to use the 403 starter and flywheel you will have to grind out the housing on the tractor to exceptthe large starter and flywheel

If you are using the 403 crankcase, you have to use the 403 starter and the 403 ring gear. You can use the 403 flywheel but the U flywheel will work better. Getting the 403 ring gear to fit the U flywheel will take a little work. You will have to do some grinding to get the starter and ring gear to fit in the transmission.

If you are using a complete 403 engine in a U, you use:
U flywheel
403 ring gear
403 starter

The tranny bell may require a little clearance touch up to let the larger ring gear fit inside. You should be able to heat up the U ring gear, tap it off the flywheel, heat up the 403 ring gear, tap it on in its place. The reason for the larger ring gear is that the G starter sits a little farther out than the U.
