hydra power drive on 1550

Wondering what the normal operating tempature for this unit is and how quick from starting cold it should reach high temp range? Reason I'm asking is other day had packing on diesel petcock leaking and noticed after feeding that diesel dripping on to Heat Exchanger (directly below sediment bowl) was smoking. Did little investigating and Heat exchanger and Hydra Drive Unit itself goes from a cold start to so warm you can't keep hand on it in about 1 to 1 1/2 min. Never noticed it getting this warm before but never really checked it either. Hydra Power Drive unit does seem to opperate properly in both Direct and In-direct Drive and always has. Shifts easily while moving with no noticable hesitation. Does not feel to be noticably slipping but I may be wrong. Wondering if this Tempature rise is abnormal and I need to investigate further or am I being paranoid. Manual does mention OPERATING TEMP TOO HIGH and gives 5 possible causes but doesn't mention what Too HIGH A TEMPATURE WOULD BE. Unit does not seem to loose fluid and does not smell or look burnt. Thanks Rocko.

Engine coolant is typically anywhere from 165 to 195 degrees F when the engine gets warmed up... Too hot to touch, but not "TOO HOT."

I would imagine if your radiator isn't boiling over, you're fine.
