Help doing a valve job

Hi I am needing to do a valve job on my 1948 60 standard . How hard would it be to do myself and get parts . Can't see any at the parts stores.

There's not much you can do yourself other than assemble once a machine shop has refaced valves(if salvagable),installed guides and ground seats(if salvagable)and resurfaced head if needed.

Valves are hard to find for the Continentals.Brad at Maibachs in Ohio custom makes valves,but are expensive. 800-808-9934.Gasket kits(valve grind set) are being reproduced and are around.

I had to get a valve set for my 5 gear 70, and the ones from Mabach fit the bill very well. Cost a few bucks, but saved me. Brads' advice is right on.

How well do you work with your machine shop? If your valves are junk ,the guides are worn out and the seats are worn you may want to do an alternate repair. It will be cheaper. With that being said we have a 60 industrial in the shop and we got the valves through Agco for about 1/3 of the price they were several years ago. Head gaskets are also availabe through Agco at a good price. Want more details, let me know how I can contact you/J.
