The original subject was "Oliver 1655 transmissioin".

Now that I have the tractor I"ve found that only the 6th gear and R2 grind and won"t engage. It puzzles me that considering the gear pattern those are the only two, the other two high range gears 3rd & 4th work fine, so don"t see how it"s a high range issue. With the way the same gears are shared 1&3, 5&6, 2&4, R1&R2, can"t see how it"s one of those gears. Can"t see how it"s the high range gear when 3&4 work fine.
Anyone have any ideas? Any help appreciated.

You have a bent shift fork or worn gear cogs on that range gear does it work on the lower side in the same side of the pattern??? If you have questions you can call me at 563 382 4530 ask for Ron

You know I woke up last nite thinking of this and thought the shift mechanism could be the issue, because 6th and R2 are the extreme end of the shift toward the front of tractor. When I picked up the tractor both gears engaged for a little while then started grinding again. Not ever being inside one of these transmissions, I"m trying to puzzle out the way it works by looking at one of Jensales service and parts manual. I appreciate your giving out your number to call Ron. Will take you up on it. Is there a good time to call?
Thanks for the help.
