Hi just curious to know if anyone has tried a cummins 5.9 in a 1750 or 1850?. I know where there is a 1750 which had a engine fire and I know of a guy who has a 5.9 from a 92 dodge 1ton for a good price. Would this be a hard conversion?

i have seen plenty of 5.9 cummins conversions lately. i know that you need an 1850 diesel tub for the motor but other than that i don't know much. there are plenty of people on this site that have done these conversions so they should give you the answers.

Yes it can be done and has been done quite a bit. And actually, you can use the original tub, but an 1850 diesel tub is a much better place to start. A 55 series Oliver would be a better series to start with if you are going to go through the effort (better hydraulics, etc).

An engine out of a Dodge really isn't the best engine to start with, but it can be made to work. Check rrlund's post for more information.
