im a case / john deere man just got a 1850 and i dont have a manual at this time for it . where do i check the transmisson gear lube and where is the fill plug??????

Hello...and...congratulations! The 1850's, especially the diesels, are very durable machines. On the back of the PTO housing, there are two pipe plugs. They may require the use of a hex/allen wrench to remove. With the tractor parked on level ground, the 80W90 gear oil for the transmission should be between the lower and upper plugs. Full to the upper plug level is best. You might want to check for milky/white oil in the final drive, indicating water contamination. There are two final drive drain plugs under the drawbar. Open the rear one, and let a little oil out to sample for metal, water, or dirt. The Oliver/White final drives are very rugged if you simply keep clean oil in them to the proper level. For the filler, not familiar with the 18, but with the 15 and 1650s there is cap you pop out in the floorboard near the base of the shifter. Under that is a cap you screw out to put in the gear lube. Look there. Someone else will post if this is right or wrong.

That system is not used on the 1750 and up series. It is as Merlin said.

The two 1/2" pipe plugs (right rear) is correct for level. Fill to the bottom of the top hole. I use the large cap on the upper PTO housing to fill the trans. on my 1850. PK
