can someone tell me how to time magneto on a b allis took cap off turned motor over trying to get spark on points but didnt think to look at position off rotor button.F&M mag....by the way i did clean points off and mag is hot thank goodness need firing order to if anyone could help..thanks

Firing order is 1243, #1 is by the radiator. How to time the mag can be a long story, I'll let somebody else try that. Fast fix would be to turn over the engine by hand until you are on top dead center of #1 cylinder on the compression stroke and then look at the cap and wherever the button is just use that spot as #1 plug wire and go around the cap from there with the other wires.

yeah i got tdc but i was wondering how to line up the gear on the cap to the gear on the mag.i think # 1 is on top of cap next to block.if it is i probally got it back where it is supposed to be.i havent tried firing it up yet maybe tomorrow thanks for info..

Send me an e-mail and the type mag you have and I'll send you the manual for it so as to be able to fill in all the gaps you need filled

if you didn't remove the mag from the tractor then with the piston at TDC on the compression stroks ,just align the rotor to the #1 timing mark on the distributor and push the distributor on the mag. The timing mark is a raised area on the upper right side of the distributor that aligns with #1 pust on the cap. If your fibre gear is marked with an A or a C you use the beveled gear on the distributor and aligning it with the C gear on the mag. LOL Bob

the gear timing inside is important. Look at Stu's photos and time the gears as you put the cover on. The advance mechanism spark have to occure at the right time, and thats gear timing. .. then get the mag timed to TDC.
