Flywheel on my 1955 Wd45 has 9 spring
pressure plate, motor needs rebuilding .Pulled another running motor for it , but this one has 6 spring pressure plate.IT manual reads "flywheels used on models wd and wd45 equipped with rockford clutch are not interchangable with same models equipped with auburn clutch" anyone run into this problem ? can i swap flywheel and clutch assembly? or will 6 sping assembly be ok in my tractor?

i havent heard of that but we had several flywheels from wds and wd45 and we didnt know which was which and we used the best looking one. i would use the 9 spring pressure plate cause you have more springs and more pressure on the clutch to keep it from slipping

Look at the flywheels closely?? Do the 2 look different?? As for swapping the flywheel yes you can do that since a WD45 crank shaft will be the same on any of them other then things like if it has be turned due to the engine being rebuilt etc

WD tractors came with 6 spring Pressure plates...

The Spring Pressure Plate is a GOOD UP-Date for either the WD or the WD-45..

You could even put 3 more springs in a 6 Spring Pressure plate..if it is in good shape..

I think the clutches will inter-change between the WD and WD-45...

The 9 Spring would be the best choice...

From what I can tell of the parts book, the flywheel was the same. I think as long as you use the same pressure plate/clutch disc combination, you'd be ok. Never been inside a 45, but my WC and a couple of WD's I've been in have had the Rockford style setup.

well I have used a wc flywheel in a wd, awd in a45 a 45 ina wc they are all the same I even put a wc flywheel on a e gleaner/ d-17 engine and put in a wc the 9 spring p/p is a must for a good running WD45 to mim slippage
