I have aD-17 series 1 I put a gauge on the Hyde. And got 1200 psi. just to test, I engaged the PTO. And tried again, and got. 2000. psi. Couple cycles, same thing. I see nothing in the drive train that would cause the difference. What am I missing
Ron

PTO, engaged or not has no influence on hyd operation. System pressure should be the same, something around 3200 psi. It is a low volume, high pressure system on Series I-III. Series IV had the more conventional system, low pressure, high flow. I&T Manual, AC-17 has the details on the hyd system for the 17 Series.

Ron watch the gauge while you move the lever because it won't read 3000-3200 very long it will peak there then back off because the pump will kick out when it reaches max pressure
