I found this old forklift at an abandoned sawmill about 20 years ago. Paid $500 for it and dropped another $500 in the engine. Best darn investment I ever made. I don't know how I ever got by before I got this one.

After using any forklift you'll wonder how you lived without. But one like that, built around a tractor is especially nice as it has good ground clearance and flotation.
A good, well built front end loader is a close second.
For us, any more we use the forklift as apposed to an engine hoist to pull and put back tractor engines.

Ya a forklift is a nice machine to have. But since it is pretty much a job specific machine not something I would buy unless I found one cheap like you did. One I would love to find is one of those old all terrain forklifts that you could load or unload a truck and be 20 foot form it. I worked ar a place that had a few of them and strange to watch some one run one since you could push the load out way in front of the machine and even level it side to side.

I can lift 5000 lbs easily and reach 14 feet. Unloading equipment is a dream. Simply drop the chains and lift with the forks. It is almost impossible to get stuck the way it is set up it goes like a beast in mud and snow. Also I rigged up a bucket, bale spears and a dozer blade. I have never seen another, but I hear there were others made.

Most any tractor company made forklifts from tractors. Ford did many models that where based on the 601 and 801 series tractor as did AC with the D series machines like you have. Back years ago I worked on a good number of them when the mechanics at place I worked did not under stand what the forklift was based on. One I remember well was a ford forklift and once I looked at it I knew what the fix was and had it up and running fast and the guy just looked at me and said HOW and I said I had a tractor at home that was pretty much the same and he said no way and I said I can prove it
