Hello Im looking at a D17 loader tractor. This tractor is a construction tractor. it dose not have the lift draw bar or a pto. When talking with the owner he said it does not have a hand clutch and it does not have the hi/lo in it. i like the tractor and it is well within my price range. my question is could i guy put a pto on it? I was thinking that the pto on a D17 was like that on a wd that mounted under the transmition and went to the back of the tractor? thank you for your answers. Brian

D-17 PTO is internal. Only the splined shaft sticks out the back. I think you need the lift arm housing as well, if it doesn't have it.

Stay away from these "construction" machines as they typically have led a hard life. The absence of the hand-clutch-wet-clutch arrangement means that the dry clutch has seen rather hard use/abuse and may just need replacing...again. I must confess, however, that I'm very biased..as I don't believe in installing loaders on dry clutch tractors, exception being to just pick up large round bales.

I very much like and agree with your bias against loaders with only a dry clutch.
I've never heard of a D17 with no "hand clutch", whether it be the hi/lo, or shuttle clutch. This sounds like an industrial unit, which I thought would at least have the shuttle clutch, so it would still have the wet clutches, and a neutral.
