WIsconsin VF4 valve adjust.

Engine is assembled and running order. Can the valves be adjusted with out taking too much apart. Factory manual shows adjusting valves before manifolds go on. Looks like if I removed velocity governor along with carburetor I might be able to get at valve adjusters. Maybe some tin work has to go too. Anybody done this? Reason I ask is I have a big click, knock, noise in engine. Never heard it till I put a quite muffler on it. I have never used this engine but have had it running on bench. Installed engine in skid loader along with muffler and now the noise.

You can download parts, specifacation, and owners
manuals free at: www.wisconsinmotors.com
you"ll hafta scroll around in there to find
what you need.
Wisconsin V-4"s are just 2, two cylinder upper
decks, on a different base. I"ve got VE4 and VF4
books here, and just looking at valve adjusting
instructions, and 2 cylinder instructions, it doesn"t look easy with manifolds in place !

Thanks for reply. I pulled the manifold, carb and velocity governor all as one. Also the tin work over the tappet cover. My manual says .008 and .016. I hope that is the latest thinking on clearances.
