1959 D-17, wide front, near new front tires, rears deep cracked but good, Needs water pump, rims cleaned up (calcium)no holes, muffler and right brakes, guy wants 3000 for it. After market 3ph works holds, starts up right away. A couple of dings on lower front cowl but all else good. Oh yea guages are dirty inside, unk hours or if the guages work. some small oil leaks noted. Need help please thanks.

Sounds like its high priced to me, Its sounds more like a $1800 tractor to me. It will cost $500 to $800 to fix what you have described it needs and to service it or more. The brakes are a pain to do and if the drum is cracked or broke you will be pulling the axel and final drive off to replace it. For that kind of money you can find a D17 series 4 with factor 3pt in good condition ready to go. I dont think any of the after market 3pt add ons are that strong, I would not trust one to plow with it. There ok to use a bush-hog grader blade with but when it comes to pulling or picking up weight (boom pole) I dont trust them. I have one with the after market 3pt on it so I know from experance. If your wanting it offer him $2000 and go from there, Just remember what its going to cost to fix it in the price you think its worth and how much work you want to do to it. Bandit

he might be a little high on price, but i have seen older D17 go for $2500. Hard to find a series 4 for $3000. around illinois.

I was at auction Friday 17 and there was one that had perfect tin, good tires, ran good, only needed the carb cleaned. Sold for $2000 which was a little high for Texas. $1500 or 1600 is about the right price. Depends on how bad someone wants something. May be higher in other areas, but Texas tractors are low due to the economy.

Well guys got the D-17 maybe more than you all suggested paying for one and probably more than I should of paid for it, but around here in New Mexico D-17 are rare and any tractor you will pay a very good penny for (Leaky 800 Ford over 5K). I finally paid 2700 for it. I figured by the time I travel a couple of days or more to the midwest and back I would pay about the same. Now I took apart the brakes came out good. The right one you couldnt apply brakes. When I took it apart there seemed to be a pin comming from the differential which was keeping the right brake from working. I could see it through the bottom little hole like on the photo. What is it for and how far should it be pushed in? (I already ordered a Parts Book and Operators book). Also do the differential and tranny have a common oil supply/fill/drain? PTO and 3pt too? Thanks for all your help and input to my questions..
