1961 MF35 Deluxe Starter Solenoid question...

Can someone take a picture of how theirs is wired... I took all the wires off and I'm not sure I got them back on correctly (I was interrupted and didn't get back to it for a week - I know, I know, always mark the wires). I've looked at the owner's manual and parts manual, but neither one shows how it is wired. Thanks.

Shouldn't be too complicated, one larger wire to the pos. of the battery, one larger wire to the starter, don't think it matters which one goes where, the solenoid simply makes the contact between the two. The small wire goes to the start switch via the neutral safety switch if it's still there. It gets it's ground (neg) connection from being bolted to the frame.
Unless I'm missing something it's just that simple! Have you tried it and it doesn't work or are you just making sure before you hit the switch?

Well, to be honest, it WAS working earlier. I may have over-drained the battery and then it hit a compression stroke and didn't have enough juice to get past it. But, I do have an un-used stud on my starter solenoid that doesn't have a wire on it. I have no idea if it is supposed to have a wire on it or not.... I will know tomorrow (may be today depending on your time-zone) after spending the night on a trickle charger (I really need a REAL battery charger)... Hopefully, the battery will be stronger and the compression will have leaked down some. I looked to see if I could rotate the engine past the compression stroke, but the 'thingy' on the front of the engine(crank pulley) looks like it takes a giant screwdriver - Is there a special 'socket' for that? To turn the engine over manually?

This is the best pic I have of a 65 diesel starter motor, it should be
the same as the 35 diesel....it may not be a close enough shot for
you?

Never thought to ask if it was gas or diesel, just assumed that mine is gas that yours would be too

.
Best pic I have of the 35 is a greasy grimy one from when I got it last fall before a good pressure washing. I've since replaced much of the wiring and it's now split and sitting in the garage waiting for me to have time to order the new clutch parts etc.

Here is a close up of the solenoid on my MF-35
diesel deluxe.

The black wire on left goes to battery positive. The
red wire left goes to amp meter. The black wire on
right goes to the neutral switch.

Thanks, Andy. That 'stud' on the left was the one I was worried about... But, good news, I got it started. Turns out it was a loose battery terminal. I can hear my Dad's voice in my head now, "Try the simple stuff first"... Dang it. I guess I'll never learn...
