MH 44 gas vs diesel block.

Quick question...... What"s the difference in the blocks on a 44 gas and a 44 diesel? I don"t have two I can put side by side and compare. The best I can tell is they are the same except the distributor is plugged off on the diesel. I have a diesel but it"s block is cracked outside at the top in the water jacket. I can get a bare gas block close by, but not a diesel. I have found a diesel but it and shipping is big $$$$$! Would it be possible to strip the diesel and reinstall all the components ( crank, cam etc) in the gas block?

Gas block has smaller starter bolts, maybe smaller pilot hole too. Think early gas and diesel had smaller main studs, need to check the parts books again. I have a diesel parts tractor, not sure if block is good though.
