6v to 12v conversion MH 44 wiring diagram

I am converting a MH 44 from 6v to 12v and will use either a 1 or 3 wire alternator. I don"t know where to connect wires either way. Any help will be great. Wiring diagram or pics.

The archives are full of pictures show how sorry I do not have that picture. Really is easy to do using a Delco 3 wire. You have the big stud on the alternator which goes to the +side of the amp gauge. The other side of the amp gauge goes to the battery/ignition. Then you have the 2 wire plug. It is marked #1 and #2. The #2 wire goes to the big stud on the alternator. And the #1 wire goes to the hot when on side of the ignition switch with a diode like the Radio shack 276-1661 strip to the alternator in that wire. My self I hook the #1 wire to the ignition side of the coil which savs a few inches of wire

I just got done doing my MH 33.. I wired mine just the same as was shown in the original manual for the most part...

You run a wire from the "BATT" post on alternator to the DISCHARGE side of the Ammeter, NOT the charge side. If you hook the wire to the charge side of the ammeter IT WILL NOT SHOW A CHARGE, as the charge current will be on the wrong side of ammeter.. GO AHEAD, ASK ME HOW I KNOW.

From the CHARGE side of the ammeter you will have a wire running to the push button terminal that is always hot (just as original)

The #1 post on a 3-wire will be the one you will either tie in at the coil or ign. switch with the diode in the line.

#2 post can be "jumped" back to the BATT post.

The biggest challenge, at least on my 33, was getting the alternator "inline" so the belt tracked straight.. I ended up making my own mount.

You will need a 12 volt coil.You must put a ballist resistor in the power supply wire to the coil.If you donot put it in you will burn out the points.Been there done that.Also make sure that the coil is connected properly for either negative ground or positive ground.All your light bulbs will have to be changed.Changed my 55 to 12 volt it works way better.
