I have a 55 Massey Ferguson with a loader and single acting lift rams on it. I just built a grapple for it with a double action cylinder on it. My question is, can I use a three spool valve to control the hydraulics along with the single action cylinders? In other words, can I use one of the double action spools be converted to operate the single acting cylinders?

The simplest way to use a double acting valve on a single acting cylinder is to run the un-used port on the valve to tank or connect it to some return line. That way the valve can still be used for a double in the future if need be, and it doesnt force oil over the relief valve when you are lowering the loader.
