55 Hand Clutch

I have just bought a 55 with a hand clutch. It feel kinda soft when it engages. Can someone tell me if there is any adjustment and how to do it? Thanks

There should be an adjustment in the linkage that leads up to the bellhousing. You will want to lenghten this linakge in small increments until you get the desired feel. The clutch plate probably has some wear and the clutch has never been adjusted to compensate.

The clutch is a over centering type. The adjustment is done on the clutch itself not on the linkage.I will be working with mine on the weekend.I wiil pull the top inspection cover off and check to see where the adjsters are so I give you the proper procedure.

Remove the top inspection cover on the bell-houseing.Turn engine over until you see the lock on the adjuster ring of clutch.Remove lock and turn adjusting ring one notch at a time until you can feel and hear a distinctive snap of the clutch over centreing. You should feel it in both directions.Once you have reached that point install lock. The clutch in my tractor has grease nipples on the pins of the over centering mechanism. You may want to check yours for that.Hope this helps you.
