I"m trying to get a Ford 800 running. It"s been sitting for a couple yrs.I cleaned the carb, changed out the old gas, made sure it"s getting fire. It acts like it wants to start, but it won"t. I"m not sure if I got the carb adjustments back to where they were. Does anyone know where the air screw, and the gas mixture screw should be after giving it a good soaking?

First off make sure you have a good blue/white spark that jumps a 1/4 inch gap or more. Also since it has sat a long time put a table spoon of ATF in each cylinder. As for the carb adjustments the idle screw the one up close to the top set it as 1-1/2 turns out and leave it it only controls idle any how. The main jet set to 2 full turns out and give it a try. Also make sure the air cleaner is not clogged up and or even pull the air tube off so you can do a hand test at the air intake as in hold your hand over the car and spin it over and see if it tries to start

You should do a compression check on all the cylinders and compare the readings and post them.
Have a helper make an attempt to start the engine while you hold your hand over the throat of the carburetor to see if there's good suction.
Poor suction means low intake manifold vacuum.
Remove the sparkplugs one at a time then pour some automatic transmission fluid on top of the pistons and let it soak for a day. Hal

There are three different places where the gas can get blocked, so you need to establish if it is getting adequate gas. To do this get a can that will hold about a quart, remove the plug at the bottom of the carb. and see that the gas flows good for a good 1/2 minute.

I don't think you would want to hold your hand over the carburetor. I have seen too many of them backfire. You could get burned.

That's how we checked cars and trucks that had mechanical fuel pumps to see if the pump was defective. Never got burnt. hal

Just want to say thanks for all the suggestions. I added ATF, let it sit for 24 hrs, and it started right up.
