bag worms on spruce trees

May be wrong time of year to treat. Mid spring they will emerge from bag to feed on foliage and then is best time for treatment

Best is to pick and burn, as posted above. Those things can really attach themselves. Had to fight to get them off the aluminum siding.

I basically treat them as I do Hornet nests...

Spray them well with long-range Hornet spray, then, holding my lighter under a final spray, fire the nest up...!!!

It's a GOOD time watching them burn...

They may or may not be related to the "Saw Flies (Green Worm with one black stripe) that gets on ever-greens in June/July..
If they are..Malathion will take care of them..

Used Orthene, made by Ortho, on bagworms several years ago. It worked. It was a liquid and I mixed up as a spray and sprayed whole tree. Don't remember the the dilution.

(quoted from post at 21:35:46 10/08/12) whats the best way to ge rid of them? Any ideas

I sprayed the bagsworms I had with BT bifren. It was a liquid type and I got it from the local Agri supply. Mixed some up in a handheld sprayer and soaked all the trees with bagworms. I sprayed when the bagworms where active and had a 100 percent kill rate with only one application. Handpicking was outta the question for me, as I had 1000's of them. BT is odorless and has a 3-6 month residual. I also use BT on fire ants mounds and if they are real bad, I spray the whole yard. BT can be used for termites, ticks, fleas and most other pests. Once it dries, it is safe to let the kids and dogs out to play.

I bought all the stuff lowes, walmart carries through the years but this BT bifren is the best I've found. Knocks them pest's out for months not weeks like that other weak mess. I highly recommend you give it a try. 8)
