tonight is E night

Well, of course, there's the Essex Tri-Directional, but the oldtimers here will recall that we got in some trouble with that, many years ago, so I'm not firing it up again.

There' Economy......

Just did a search on the Essex Tri-Directional (584 hits, BTW)- would you old-timers on here believe that it was 10 years ago?

To save all y'all a lot of research (singular: y'all; plural; all y'all), the Essex Tri-Directional was the invention of the fertile minds of a couple of guys who used to post on here- Clem and Grove r. They could spin a tale with the best of them, and started touting the features of the Essex Tri-Directional. Tri-Directional referred to the fact that the tractor could go 3 directions at once. You can imagine how the features of the tractor were amplified, as the posts continued.

The replies seemed to fall into two camps: Those who advanced even further outrageous claims of the wonders of the ETD, and those who just called BS on the whole thing. Those in the first camp (me included) tended to refer to the second camp as "plodders", who took everything too seriously.

Be that as it may, the legend of the ETD began to take over the board, back in 2002, and finally, the administrators called a halt to it, and decreed that no further ETD posts would be allowed. From that day forward, many continued to refer to the ETD, but only in passing, so the thread wouldn't be poofed.

I was most distressed to find, upon going to ETD in my "Favorites" (which I have carried forward all these years), that my ETD thread cannot be found. I had the only picture of the machine, which looked a lot like a Farmall F-12 with the main deck of the Starship Enterprise photo-shopped onto it. Was devastated to lose it.

Surpized it's not already running and plowing by itself, My granddad's neighbor knew a guy that had a cousin who new someone's Dad that had one out East and West of here. It would just fire itself up in the spring and keep going till the crops were all in! They had to buy a bunch of 55 gal. barrels cause every night it had a full tank of full and if they didn't drain it out, It would go to the next farm and put The fuel in the neighbor's tank.

Heres a Eagle , Electric wheel co. all work tractor and a Emerson Brantingham 15-25. These were at Forest City Iowa show.

See, that's what I'm talkin' about. The references to ownership were always very hazy- someone had an uncle who knew a guy whose ex-brother-in-law had a friend who. . . You get the idea.

And then came the outrageous claims, limited only by the poster's creative writing skills.

Just curious, Rusted- were you around on the board during that time? Your post sure seems to capture the spirit of the thing. . .

If you mean when the said machine was built, I can't tell you, If I did the Fed's would come get Me and send Me to Worst-in-ten DC. Same as they did with said machine.

An old farmer pupped out on the road just ahead of the wifey and I while we were on a ride around the neighborhood. His tractor wheels were perpendicular to the ehgine and hood. As he entered the road, he was turrning all 4 wheels to a parallel to the hood mode. By the time I got out my camera I got this shot of it.

Have no pictures but there were several at a show this year, just can't remember what show. But it was the Empire and they used a Jeep engine. I think they were very nicely designed. Late 40's-early 50's.

I don't have an "E" tractor to post a picture of!!!
Better talk SWMBO into one!
But then there's the rest of the alphabet too.....hmmm.....
Gonna need another barn!!

(quoted from post at 00:08:16 10/03/12) "Extraordinary" is what this one should be called. It was posted a few years ago by Greenbeanman.
