Briggs coil

I think I need a coil. I replaced the condensor on my Briggs horizontal engine which I think is a 10 hp. but I m not sure. There is no numbers on it anywhere. The numbers for the condensor that fit it are 291369. The engine quits running after it warms up. The condensor didn t help. I know that s not much to go on but can someone help, and how interchangeable are the coils as I have another engine that is blown up I could use that one if the coil will fit.

Have you checked for fire to your sparkplug after it quits running? If it has fire I think
you have a fuel problem. If you don't have any fire to your plug when quits and you have battery start I would install an auto type coil if you have points. Run a hot wire thru a switch and to the coil + terminal and a wire to your points from the neg terminal. Disconnect the wire from the old armature to the points. Hal

I had the same problem. That is exactly what I did to the B&S 19D on my Sears Suburban 725. After I replaced the spark plug, coil, condenser and points, I concluded the flywheel magnetism is weak.

That poor magnetism happens a lot on these old engines. It also happens in magnetos on farm tractors. A lot are unsheltered then expect the engine to start. Hal

Try cleaning off flywheel cover & look on all sides of same closely in sunlight or with a bright light,on some mod briggs eng the mod, type & serial numbers are stamped into flywheel cover, although sometimes briggs stamping leaves a little to be desired. As far as swaping coils from another eng this is something you'll have to try or IF you have mod#'s of both eng goto partstree,or outdoordistributors online & lookup coil pn for each in eng parts listings to see if the're the same pn,many times the coil will look the same but depending on age/mod# of eng coil you are trying to swap may not work due to fact some older mod eng had reverse polarity on flywheel magnets.

If you are talking the magneto may be bad, and have an electric start on that engine you could eliminate the "Kill wire" to the points, using it for the - side of the coil and put on a regular (Automobile style)coil, and run a hot wire to the + saves from pulling flywheel.
