Brake On Electric Clutch

Hi ,

Settle an argument for me guys . A friend has a Cub Cadet ,a 2000 series made in the early 2000"s . It has an electric clutch on the crank for the blades . He says that the clutch has a brake on the clutch to stop the blades . I"ve seen a clutch assembly apart before similiar to his , but not necessary the same as his . I"ve only seen brakes on the deck itself so I say that the brakes are on the deck and not the clutch . Who right ???? I admit that I don"t know everything about electric clutches and that I haven"t seen them all . Who"s right ??? Thank for any and all help .

Most of the electric clutches on the mowers we sell have the brake on them. You can identify it by the magnets, there are usually two, and a plate over the top of them that the clutch disk drags on when it is disengaged. The magnets keep the clutch plate against the brake except for when the electromagnet is turned on, it is a more powerful magnet than the permanent magnets.

For what its worth, some of the latest brakes have spacers behind the magnets, As the clutch wears you can remove the spacers to reduce the air gap between the magnet and the plate so the electromagnet can still engage the clutch.
