Has anyone used anything other than calcium or plain water for weight in the rear wheels. I was thinking of using a mixture of antifreeze and water. Has anyone done this? I am concerned that antifreeze may damage the tube.
 
Tire shops have something new now that's much better than the old calcium chloride. Can't recall the name of it offhand.
 
I believe what you are referring to is Rim Guard, which is the
beet juice. folks are also using windshield washer fluid.
 
Ed, I don't think you would have to worry about the antifreeze damaging the rubber tube. It runs through the rubber radiator hoses without hurting them too much.
 
When I had new tires mounted on my TO-20 back in the summer they used RV antifreeze to fill my tires. The old tire in the back that blew out had antifreeze in it and the rim was perfect. That tire blew just because they were in bad shape and badly dry rotted. It had nothing to do with the antifreeze.
 
You do not want to use just water in them as it can freeze and damage the tubes and tires or all the weight would be in one spot and I would think it could give that tractor a ride you would not like. I am sure it has been mentioned in the archives about using water and antifreeze also Beet juice also windshield fluid. If you use the windshield fluid check to see what degree it is mixed to.
 
I just recently loaded the rear tires on my TE-A20 with windshield washer fluid. It's good to -40C which is also -40F. If it gets colder than that I'll be staying in !

I've also heard some folks are using Rv antifreeze. Either one will work well. It's not quite as heavy as the calcium chloride but it's close enough. I put 30 gallons in each rear tire and at 8.2lbs/gal that's 246lbs per tire. With my duo-grip chains and the washer fluid I'm getting very good traction. Now I just have to go get my new front wheel weights and I'm in business.
 
I used -20 anti freeze if you go to the local dollar store it will cost a lot less than antifreeze 1.50 to 2.00 $ compared to 4
