More MF65 PTO questions.

Prior to this issue of the PTO. I observed that the PTO had about 3/4" (2cm) of fwd-aft play in it. Is this normal?

I would think there should be little to no play in the PTO.

The play would cause the PTO to be knocked out of gear. i.e. when coming out of a ditch with the mower going in "V" shape if you will. The PTO engage lever would be pushed fwd to neutral.

Looks like the thrust is taken out by the two snap rings on the aft bearing.

I cannot find the fwd snap ring "yet" but I am not sure missing this would cause the fwd movement issue.

Thoughts?
 
Jeff you really need to grease the sliding/ telescoping parts on the implement shaft. A dry shaft will pull on the tractor shaft enough to finally break the snap ring. Your snap ring stops the fore and aft movement.

With all the movement your PTO shaft had, I would check to make sure the needle bearing is still intact where the shaft goes through into the sliding coupler. There is also a needle bearing in the end of the hydraulic pump shaft that the PTO shaft rides in.
