I have a chance to pick up a MF50 diesel tractor. Dont know anything about the machine. Engine is loose. good rear tires with spinouts. power steering, tin is good with fair paint
Any particular items I should check for this model? What is a fair price for machine in running condition? Thanks, Jim.

You ask about a value in running condition- but it doesn't run? Just not seized? BIG difference. If he can get it running- well- then we are talking bucks. It will be a Perkins I presume, but, a non running diesel gives me a real sinking feeling.
What's he want for it just sitting there dead? To me, a good set of tires and a few other goodies- like power steering? makes it worth a few bills even if the engine is toast.

Tony, Thanks for the reply. I also posted on the Massey site but this is where I usually lurk. Here is the story... owner died. wife is getting rid of all the iron. Tractor looks like it was parked there not too long ago, but batt is dead so not able to start. I can turn over engine a bit from fan. Oil level is good, has antifreeze. no other info on how it ran when parked, so roll the dice. wants bitover scrap aprox $400. was wondering value after i get it running and cleaned up. Any ideas? Thanks, Jim.

400? Just pay the lady. Steering is worth that. Might just get a fresh battery, new fuel filters and ... the handyman's secret weapon... starter fluid...
Just bring it home, we'll take it from there.

At $400 I can't believe you're even [b:6cc11ba440]asking [/b:6cc11ba440]about the value. That price is so low that given the situation I'd give them double that just to be a nice guy.

If it's running and is a diesel it would go for minimum $2,000. With good tires and such it might go for $3,00 to $4,000. [i:6cc11ba440][/i:6cc11ba440]

Thanks for the comments. I have made an offer, now we wait for reply. The man in charge of the cleanup is letting a select few look over the piles and piles of iron and make offers on anything. The rest will be put into rolloffs for scrap.
I have ordered an owners manual. I believe this has the 3 cylinder perkins engine. I dont have a serial number so cant date the machine. My plan is to drain and replace fluids and filters, drain and flush fuel system, install new batt and try a startup.
I rebuilt a TO30 couple of years ago and was pleased with the availability of replacement parts. Is the MF50 similar as to plentiful parts supply? Thanks for the help, Jim.
