I aquired a international t340 crawler. it steers to the left fine. It will not steer to right unless you pull real hard on the stick. I restore old tractors as a hobby. I checked out the steering clutches. they are fine. It has to be the brakes. I"ve got the track and sproket off. I can"t get the final drive loose. Is there something internally holding it?

Nothing internal as I recall, but I did have to coax it off straight. By the way, are you sure you checked the steering clutch freeplay adjustment carefully? The machine should still turn without pulling the lever so far as to engage the brake, just not so sharp.

Thanks for replying charlie. I've read alot of your post. It's a Pleasure to hear from you. I did the clutch adjustment after I had removed the trans. cover to inspect the clutches. When i first got the machine it wouldn't steer to the right at all. Only ocassionaly. I did a test of the clutches. I pulled both levers back and held them then released the foot clutch. Then i slowly released the right lever till the tractor started forward. It will do a very gradual turn to the right. I only got it to steer to the right after i ajusted the brakes all the way. By the way it had no foot brake at all. Now my foot brake works fairly well. I have the original parts book. Also have a owners manual. Thats been helpful in ajustments. I'll keep prying, but equally. thaks again.
