returned for some more help . thanks bob for your help the first time around . i have a 1950 tea 20 fergie. the stick shift goes into all 4 gears but wont move into the start position or reverse gear. any suggestions on how to repair thanks

When you move the shifter to the right in neutral does it stop there? If so you can try lifting the shifter straight up and to the right and see if that helps. It will only come up maybe 1/8 inch then should move to the right.

See if there is any movement at all in the selector rail, it may be seized in the Transmission housing. Take out the filler plug by the Gear Lever and GENTLY try to move it with a small pry bar back-wards and for-wards BUT GENTLY. You can also try to see if it will rotate ever so slightly. Spray the rail where it goes through the transmission case. If this doesn't work, email me and tell me just what is happening and I will send you more...John(UK)[email protected]

thanks john you were right the rail was seized . it took awhile but i finally got it free the shifter slides nicely into place now. however now the shifter seems a bit loose and sloppy and sometimes you can hear the shifter spring making some noise when moving it into gear, any thoughts
