Ford 555 Injection pump leak at throttle shaft

Got a drip drip from the throttle shaft on my 555 and a little fron the kill switch shaft. Anyone replace o-rings on these? Does the pump have to come off the tractor to do this? Any worries about retiming the pump when putting it back on? I have replaced timing chains and heads on a mercedes diesel, but have never been inside an injection pump.

CAV pump? I"ve done mine and its not a big deal. The pump stays on the engine. You have to undo the cables so the shafts remain. The top of the pump comes off leaving the shafts in place. Make sure you keep the internal throttle spring in the same hole on the shaft. Replace the "O" rings on the shaft. You may have to replace the gasket for the pump cover.

If you think you can keep the dirt out of the open pump on that engine when you remove the cover, go for it, but it won't be MY pump.

Pump removal is actually pretty simple... Take note of where the timimg marks are on the pump ear so you can set it back there, remove the 3 bolts in the pump drive gear, the lines, cables etc and then remvoe the pump. It'snot really much more than 2 hours work to remove and reinstall the pump, then you can see what you're doing and keep the pump clean...
Just don't roll the engine over or remove the timing gear and you'll be fine. There is a dowel in the timing gear so there's only one way for it to go on.

I don't know if it is a CAV pump or not. Diesel. "throttle" lever in back, shut off in front. 1980ish ford 555 3cyl diesel. Whentop of pump comes off, does anything fall out? or can i take top off and just be careful?

It's a CAV pump. The biggest things you need to be carefull about are dirt, the govenor spring which is attached to the cover and the proper placement of the shutoff bar. There's nothing going to fly out at you, but those are the important things to watch.

Repair done. Left the unit on the tractor after cleaning the whole area with acetone and compressed air. no problem with dirt. There was a little pin with a spring on it that flew off when I took the main governor spring loose from it. I had to make a new one out of a nail, but this worked fine and after a little tinkering with the linkage, all is well. It idles well and goes when I give it gas. Leak on throttle shaft fixed by putting in new o-rings.

I know this is an old post, but thought I would add a little.

The little pin that Larry is talking about goes through the governor plate.

It has a spring on the back side.

Hold your right hand index finger on the pin and spring as you unhook main governor spring with needle nose pliers and your left hand.
Then you can carefully remove pin and spring, and hopefully save yourself some grief.
