Fertilizer-isn't this convenient

I posted two months ago about the fertilizer monopoly ripping us off because they could. Some or even most of you defended it saying either that it was justified or you said it was just capitalism. Well now that planting season is pretty much over, the shortage is magically gone. Urea prices dropped nearly 50% in a week. Yup, we weren't ripped off. Somebody probably just made a clerical error or something.

The whole link as I copied it didn't post. After you go to the link, you'll have to click ''Fertilizer prices drop'' on the top banner to go to the story.

I agree with you. A price drop that far indicates there was no real shortage; the price was high because they could get away with it. Another name for capitalism is legal theft. A fair capitalist will not price gouge.

Not much difference in my mind between monopolies and socialism. Both are an economy controlled by a single entity. Either way there's no competition and the consumer is a slave to just having to take it.

Fertilizer companies just like every other company in the World is in business to make as much money as they can,not to see how cheap they can sell their product. But like oil companies where would you be without them?

So let's just all get on our knees, bow to them and say ''Thank you sir. May I have another?''. We all need a lesson on the difference between capitalism and monopolies.

So what are you going to do about it? Quit buying? No one outside of a few farmers which make up a very very small fragment of the population really cares or even knows about. So I don't see any solution in the near or even distant future. I don't buy the stuff so guess I been boycotting it for years.

Let's hear you say the same thing about fuel. Monopolies have us over a barrel and they know it. Capitalism creates competition, increases supply and brings down prices. A small handful of monopolies have been allowed to grow to the point that they can squash any competitors. If not in the market place, they back a dump truck full of money up to the door and keep dumping until nobody in their right mind could resist. But if that's the country you want to live in, enjoy, you've got it.

What I want? Must be what you want too as you're still here.Nothing I can do to change a lot of things but it ain't a perfect World/country but I can't see where its any better anywhere else. And its not the oil companies that have the power to drive up prices because if they had that power they'd of never been selling fuel a couple years ago for half what its selling for now.I'll spend my time trying to figure out how to make a go of it with the way things are rather than worry about how things should be I have no power to change.
