First year using a Kuhn GMD400 disc mower. Tractor is a JD 5065E. Works fine.

But, when I hook it onto the 3-point hitch it is offset to the right. I was able to adjust the stabilizers. The left side is forward as far as it goes. The right side is extended about 6 inches. I pinned them so it does not sway. This adjustment makes the PTO shaft almost straight.

Thoughts?

Looks as if the pins for the lower arms might be able to be moved.
Picture does not show the offset, but shows it in use.

Thanks

When I hook the mower to the 3-point the PTO shaft is angled about 20 degrees to the right. If I loosen the stabilizer bars on the lower links I can pivot the mower and shove it toward the left side of the tractor. Then the pto shaft is straight.

Seems as though the shaft should be straight with no need to adjust it when I hook it up with lower links equal.

Raking and baling. I can take pics in a few days when I mow hay again.

PTO shaft angle is of minor importance
The mower needs to be set so that the cut line of the inside disc is outside of the right rear tires track
I like to set it where the right rear tire runs 6-8 inches away from the cut line
If the inside disc is trailing behind the rear tire your loosing cutting width or running over the hay youre going to cut making for a bad cut
If theres much more than a foot of distance between the rear tire and the cut line youll have a tendency to crowd over a leave a strip of uncut hay
This is outlined in a operators manual if you have one, if not I suggest you get one

Thanks for the advice.

I have a manual and see that the pins
can be adjusted. It gives the
dimensions for the first disc distance
from the outside of the right tire.
Also, adjusting the pins the lower
links attach to.

Used machine and frankly, the first I
have seen that has such adjustments.
The 3-point equipment I use is a brush
hog type rotary mower.

I think adjusting to the specs in the
book will also help reduce the feeling
of all the weight hanging off the right
side of the tractor. Especially in
transport mode.

Ken

No that feeling is going to stay because all the weight is hanging off the right side
My brother layed a tractor on its side when the right back tire dropped in a hole with the mower raised
No damage to the tractor or mower but it was a little upsetting

Update: read the manual and adjusted the placement if the pins the lower links attach to. Originally the left lower link was hooked up on the outside of the mower frame. Now it hooks inside. Narrowed the width of the lower links.

Now the pto shaft is straight. The edge of the cut is at the edge of the right rear tire. So far so good. I can straddle the mowed swath and get a full swath without having to drive on uncut hay.

Pic is from the tractor seat looking down at mower.

Thanks for the replies.
