Sweetcorn herbicides question

I grow a 1/2 acre of sweetcorn evert year. General I try to cultivate with an old AC B. I did pick up an AC G last year and did better but not to my liking. With seed price as high as it is I want as much from the field as possible. I think this year I will pursue some help as I need it. I was looking for a pre emergence herbicide that was good, and safe for corn and safe for consumption of the sweetcorn. In row weed pressure is what I'm trying to stop.

Years ago when I was young my neighbor had a 494 JD planter. It had herbicide bins on it. Those used dry herbicide in them. I wasn't interested in it then but now I am. I wonder what I could use but he's gone and I have no one to ask. Any help would be great.

Are you wanting to control grassy weeds, broadleaf weeds, or both?

Typically broad leafs arent too hard t deal with on a half acre, either a hoe or any number of herbicides.

Since corn is actually a grass, controlling grass weeds is a little more difficult. They come up so thick they are tough to hoe, and you need to time the grass herbicides so they kill the grass without harming the corn.

A pre is a good choice for grass control.

WE have used prowl h2o on 3 inch corn , fresh cultivated this will not stop emerged weeds , needs clean dirt will take you thru canopy fair priced in past dont know today this is on sweet corn and is labeled for it

Yes I have a mix of both broadleaf and grasses I need to control. My main contenders are foxtail, goldenrod and orchard grass.

Right or wrong this is what I have done for years with good success. Immediately after I plant a patch, I always spray what would be 25 GPA of 28% nitrogen over the top. I mix in what would be a slack 2 quarts per acre of Bicep. This will give you a quart per acre of atrazine for weeds and 1 quart per acre of Dual which controls grass. Do not apply this where you intend to follow in the same crop season with a broadleaf plant such as a bean. Between this and cultivation I've had great success keeping it clean.

I don't think there's anything you can buy that'll work on grasses unless you have your certification to buy and use restricted use pesticides. If you can find some Roundup Ready seed, you can use glyphosate, but otherwise you're pretty much limited to cultivating and a hoe. I suppose you could pay somebody who's certified to come and spray it for you if you don't want to get certified.

Ed, can you open your e-mail or send me one? I have some non restricted product that you might like to have.
