I will be using a used Kuhn GMD400 discmower for hay in 2022. I have a manual, changed the oil and put on new blades. First time for me. A little unclear on use of the check chain. Tractor is a John Deere 5065E.
I used a NH Haybine for several years. Finally broke and bent enough to give it up. It had a nice feature: 3 different sized spacers so I could set the cutter height where I wanted it. Easy to raise mower then set down and forget it. I mow 6 small 2 - 4 acre fields. Mostly grass with a little clover or alfalfa, smooth and no rocks. Southern Wisconsin horse hay for a couple neighbors.
My test drive before I put Kuhn in shed seemed as if I had to lower cutters and eyeball if horizontal and how far off the ground.
Suggestions welcomed.
