Rod weeders V rotary hoes

Never used a rod weeder but we found out that on lister planted feed/sorghum that we could cultivate the rows with a rotary hoe when the plants were smaller so as not to bury them as was what often happened when we used a spike tooth harrow on the ridges. Learned not to use the rotary hoe until the ridges were dry enough that the soil wouldn't clog up the wheels. Could also travel faster with the rotary hoe than with the spike tooth harrow, which was always an enjoyment for a teen-ager.
