Cocklebur control

Need some advice on what to do. The cocklebur has exploded this year in the corn crop with all of the rain we've had. We are close to being finished picking all of the corn, but would it be productive to spray something now in the fall of the year before the corn stalks are shredded ? If so what would you use ? Our herbicide program that we use has been 2 qts/ A of Bicep magnum at planting off of the planter followed by a good qt of Roundup, 2 more qts of atrazine, and 4 oz / A of Status which is a safened 24d to spray over the top at lay by time. It has kept it clean in the past but we have this mess in places that it has never been. Our 1st typical killing frost is around Halloween. Afraid it'll spread next year if something isn't done. Suggestions ?

If the burs are black it is to late for spray. All that will do is kill the green plant. That plant will not come up next year anyway. It will help to moldboard it.

I have sprayed it in pastures this late with about a 50% success rate using Crossbow. I have had a good kill rate this fall on many weeds because the heavy rains have kept them green later into the season.

All the burrs on the plants are still green or nonexistent yet. Sure don't want to have to mold board it.

2-4D Amine is what I use at 1-2%. It attacks circular cell plants vs parallel grain. Broadleaf weeds leaves are circular....grasses and corn are parallel. The sooner you apply the better, keeping the newly forming seeds to small to survive and make next years plants.

Don't forget your Surfectant. I use 80/20 brand...posted on the label (if you use 80% of a gallon of 2-4D, the 20% left to make a gallon (or whatever your measurement) is for surfectant..... for perfect results...total kill with no growback in following years with one application. Best results with young actively growing plants...earlier in the season the better......after several leaves are present at least.

A gallon with 100 gal of water is my 1% mix or 2 gal. for 2% when weeds are thick.
