Breaking new ground - next step question

Hi All,

Busted up an old section of field today, think it came out pretty good (see attached image).

My plan was hit it one more time with the disc then to let it sit, then tandem disc it when weedies sprout, then drill seed.

But I also have a spring tooth drag, one of those drags but the tines are like chopsticks, as well as other implements.

Based on the photo, should I hit it again with the disc now, use something else now, or wait until weedies come up and then hit it (if wait, when time, hit it with what implement?).

BTW - it went from sod to what you see with just a couple passes of that IH offset disc

Thanks

Looks nice.

You could do this 5 different ways, and not be wrong......

If you need to get seeded soon, harrow it tomorrow to level out the lumps and clumps bust them up before they are dry.

If you want to wait for weeds to sprout in 4-7 days, then Im used to using a field cultivator at that time, but the small disk would also work it up in your type of soil. Then harrow it to really smooth it out, right away if you need to get planting, or wait 4-7 more days for weeds.

And there are many other ways to try it, depends on weather forecasts and stuff......

Now, what are we planting and where are we? We are getting kinda late to be waiting a whole lot to plant. Hay or pasture you can plant in spring or fall. Planting in the middle of summer doesnt really work well in most locations. A grain crop should almost be planted and green already, soybeans you have a few weeks but sooner is better. Planting stuff in mid July to mid September tends to not be real high odds. Just for fun conversation, Ive been wrong a lot of times, and lot of places I havent been so my upper midwestern ideas can be very wrong.....

ChampagneNBeer one suggestion what ever you decide to do work it at an angle to your last direction of travel. This helps to keep a field flat. I use an offset similar to the one you are using and they will ridge the ground especially where they leave a furrow. Your pics look great considering where this field started from.

Its best if you can wait a few days between parses just so the ground can dry a little bit and not pack down like concrete . I moldboard plow then two sometimes 3 passes with the power harrow or two time with the disc and roller depending on the ground and rocks
