Ford 5000 implement size?

I'm looking at getting a grader blade, finish mower and possibly a cultivator(for the garden if one comes up cheap) for the 5000 i just brought home. It's 20-45hp more than the tractors ive ran such as my allis c, dad's 3000 and a farmall 340 utility. None of them had a cat 2 hitch and every attachment has been 5 foot or less so I'm not really sure what size i can get away with here. I want something wide enough for the tractor but i also don't want to go overboard. Any suggestions are appreciated. The pto brake is worn out as they just about always are, will a finish mower provide enough mass to keep it from spinning or would the pto even know it's there? I will have to road it some a few miles on gravel occasionally and i don't want to have it spinning the whole time but also don't think a pto brake on these will last long.

I used a 6 ft on my Ford 3000 some years back. I would try to get a blade that is wider than the tractor tires.

Thinking 7 foot will do ok, found a couple older 7 and 8 foot 3 way blades cheap.

What year is your 5000, the early models with louvered hoods had a smaller engine making less hp, ether one will handle a 7 ft 3 point hitch rotary mower, a 10 ft fixed deck pull type or a 12 ft flex wing.
A 7 ft blade would work well with a 5000
A good 7 ft rotary tiller will work the soil up real nice, I use a 7 footer behind my 4000SU.

It's an early model, January 24th of '66 if i read the numbers correctly. 6A24. A tiller would be nice, i have sandy soil at the house but there's more room at the other property which has a fair amount of clay in it. Just wish they weren't so darn expensive. :shock:

For your grader blade and finish mower get one wide enough to cover your wheel tracks. With the finish mower only used a a finish mower another foot wider is
nice. On the grader blade I would add another foot so you can angle it and still cover your rear wheel tracks. My grader blade gets used for snow so between the
angling of the blade and offset of the frame I can push snow beyond the edge of the pavement and still keep the tires on the pavement.

The pto brake on the 5000 isn't really too difficult to lift the top cover and replace. They will last a long time, if you throttle them
down before kicking the pto out of gear.
