bahia grass control

Got a coastal bermuda grass hay field that bahia grass is slowly creeping in on. I know that there are chemicals to control the bahia. What other methods are used to control it besides chemicals? Is this a sign of a poorly fertile field?

thanks for any suggestions.

Fert surely wouldn't hurt. Bermuda loves N and no doubt it could choke it out......if it doesn't you haven't lost anything, just gained a much nicer, increased volume hay patch.

If the type of Bermuda you have produces runners, cutting a runner produces a new plant everywhere there are little roots on the runner securing it to the ground. I run a Hay King Pasture renovator over the field before I fertilize in the spriing. The coulters cut the runners and the tines not only aerate the soil but give the fert. a way to get to the roots. The renovator is built like a tank and not pricy for what you get....local JD dealer sold the one I have.
