cultivating with cub/140 - row width

Can anyone tell me if I will be able to use a cub or IH 140 on 30" rows cultivating 1 row at a time - if not - can you make it so it straddles 2 rows and just reset the cultivating tines? Just doing this for sunflower - dove field - someone offering me a cub/140 and don't want to take it if won't work.

According to the Nebraska test report for the 140 the wheel spacing range is 44-70 and 40-68, front and rear respectively. When straddling one 30" row you'd only have 3 or 4 inches between the edges of the tires and the adjacent rows which isn't very much at all. I'd plan on setting both front and rear at 60" and straddle two rows.

The Cub's minimum wheel spacing is about the same as a 140 but the max is only about 56". This is still plenty close enough to the ideal 60" for straddling two 30" rows.

How do you cultivate with a 1 row cultivator while straddling two rows?

You can still cultivate one row while straddling two - just turn around and drive right down the same path you just went to work the row that wasn't done on the first pass. The draft of a single row setup would be light enough that having the cultivator offset from the tractor centerline shouldn't cause a problem, especially with a 140.

I can't see how it would work very well think he needs narrow tires and get it narrowed up as much as possible.
