John Deere 530 baler tension pressure

Does anyone know the actual pressures in numbers indicated by the green and red gauge on these balers? I have replaced my inop colored gauge with a 5000# gauge and am getting 1000# on the gauge after I close the gate. What pressures are ideal and or acceptable? Thanks in advance for any help.

I had a 530 and now have a 375 which rolls a smaller diameter bale and is manually operated. I don't know the numbers on the 530 but
here are the numbers on the 375 with new packing in the gate cylinders which are used for bale tensioning:

Gate closed is right at 1000#. You have a latch, this one relies on hyd press to hold it closed. When loading a "wad" of grass at a fairly fast
ground speed, the bale forming pressure spikes to 3000 and as the machine distributes the wad the pressure drops back to around 17-
1800#. If you continuously cram a big WW it will stay at 3000.....apparently my machine has a 3000# pop-0ff valve. Bales are not so tight
that you can't spear them. My 530 was adjusted so that you had a hard time, with a sharp spear, penetrating a SS bale. If yours is
adjusted like that your pressures may be higher.

I agree with Mark pressure should be around a 1000 psi when gate is closed then increase while hay is being fed into baler. Pressure on gauge while baling will be determined by how many turns hyd pressure control valve is turned in. 4000 psi is maximum pressure of gauge listed in parts specifications.

Thanks, mine goes to 1k with gate closed, at first I was around 3k when running fast through thick windrows, but that caused my slipper clutch to kick me out. Backed off to around 2400 now and am making good bales without locking up the machine. Thanks for the info, now someone can replace the 200$ gauge with a 10$ gauge and get on down the field.

I got my 0-3k and have gotten 0-5k oil filled gauges off ebay new for less than $20, free shipping on some ebay suppliers and certain
products. Shipping is always fast expecially if you use their "fast and free" shipping option....seller has to include it in the sale and is
indicated on the buy posting.
