Grading questions

I'm picking up a box scraper on Thursday to (hopefully) smooth out the driveway/garage apron.

I've been having a ball plowing snow with the front blade... but in the meantime I've also scrapped quite a bit of the gravel drive into the snow piles... gonna need to reposition the gravel and get a crown on the drive... I'm gonna have a shallow ditch on each side of the drive.

Here's a rough sketch of what I have to work on (arrows show the direction the water needs to flow)... the drive being about 1/4 mile long and running gently downhill.

I need to get the barn and garage to drain downhill (along with the short section of drive between them) then get the road to drain to each side. Right now I have relatively flat spots where water pools in front of the barn and also on the road.



The crown of the road seems simple enough (tilt the blade to get the gravel back to the center then flatten the top of the crown?)...

It's the barn/garage part I'm not so sure of... do I run the tractor west/east to bring some material back towards the garage then go east/west to smooth it out?

The short section of drive between the barn and the garage... same thing?

Any input from those who've done something similar in the past?

The way I use a box blade is this, let
right hitch arm down about a inch or so at
ball end. Set teeth so when blade is level
front to rear just touch or barely clear
ground when blade is down. Then shorten top
link so teeth dig, maybe as short as it
will go. Then work entire driveway,driving
on right side. Maybe 4 rounds. Then extend
top link till box blade is higher in front
than back. Work this way carring almost a
full blade full. Making a few rounds. You
will have put crown in your drive by now.
If to much raise right link a little. I
have a cylinder on the top link so i
lengthen it on the go to lose gravel in the
low places. Also set your 3 point lever
just a little lower than you are blading.

Oh works best if a little wet. But not muddy.
