I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I haven't put my first cutting of hay down yet. Im in the UP of Michigan and I'm not the only one. I'm hoping that the forecast is right, and I can get some done this week. Any of you " old timers" ever do first cut mid July?

I'm in western NY and haven't done any. There has been more than one year where it was August before I could get in a field and I remember one year it was labor day. We've had one of the wettest years ever this year. Last year was one of the driest. Based on weather forecast and how wet the ground is it looks like August again this year.

I've been up there in the eastern UP in August and seen them knocking down first cutting,so you're early. lol

I laid down the first field of second yesterday. With that 5.5 inches of rain we had right after I got the first off that field, the second was phenomenal. No if I can get it baled before that cold front sags through here late tomorrow.

I just got the last on my hay done a couple weeks ago. Latest I have even baled hay where I live and I have been doing ti for almost 37 years

Live in the western UP and have got some done but not much. Got 65 rolled up Monday then almost an inch of rain today. Also got some wrapped haylage put up as well. Trouble has been getting the hay to dry with the standing water on the ground in many places.

Where in the UP are you located?

1200 acres of second cutting alfalfa done (chopped for haylage). Just finished 400+ acres of new seeding alfalfa with oats as a cover.

I am in Southeast Michigan and I still have about 100 acres of first cut to do and have not done any 2nd yet. I have done first cutting in November before. We ended up having a lot of forecast of chance of rain but have not got much water so that has delayed a lot of us in this area from getting done.

Heck I never got the seed out of the bag. Was so wet for so long, couldn't get it in the ground. When the rain stopped-- it stopped, had 1/2 inch in 70 days. Guess I'm saving on grease and twine--don't have to grease mower, conditioner, rake, or baler.

got a good first cutting off my place in june.. Been at folks place trying to get theirs done before heading to another smaller place I do.. Folks live 30 minutes straight north of me.. They have had 8 inches of rain since July4.. My place has had only 1/2 since then.. Im drying up.. not sure about a second on mine this year.. . their place I cant get a couple days without the threat...
