planting field corn in july

have an opportunity to plant a 13 acre patch this week. could go with corn or beans. beans will supposedly tolerate the late planting better but I also wonder about an early frost and the pods splitting if we should not just go with corn.

Up here in Minnesota the field corn window closes about June 6th.

The soybean window closes about July 4th.

I've planted corn on June 10th or so and got corn, but an early frost can really mess that up, and it will be very wet and lower yielding any how.

Beans just depends on the fall, they will yield a bit less but easily can get ripe on time. There are many short season bean groups.

Your climate could make it drastically different where you are.

Too late for corn in Iowa. Might some real early variety beans to mature. Son said he has 3000 acres of been left to spray, some of it was just peaking thru the ground.
