Planting grass seed

Going to increase the size of my yard. Taking about an acre of corn field and planting grass. I have it worked up good going to use a broadcast seeder to spread the seed. Should I use the four section drag after seeding to drag it in? Or just leave it? thanks Mark

When I did a patch of mine I finished by pulling the drag sections up-side-down. Made it smoother for the little lawn mower wheels.

I would drag over it with something, but a drag harrow sounds like a little much to me. I sure wouldn't set the teeth very deep if I used a harrow. Make sure the corn ground hasn't been sprayed with any grass killing chemicals. And if it has been sprayed in the past, make sure there is not going to be any carry over from grass killing chemicals that may have been sprayed before. Because it will kill your grass before it even gets started. And newly seeded grass needs to be watered regularly after it is seeded.

did some last year, I went over it with the drag harrow set flat behind an ATV. Then we mulched it, and watered heavily.

The harrow/ drag is a good idea. Maybe even two passes, with it not real aggressive, different angles across the field.

Most planting instructions I read say broadcast and cover with a little dirt. To me that means something like a piece of chain link fence or a spike tooth harrow turned upside down where the smooth side is on the soil.....that's what I do and it works for me..
